First Bus orders 17 next-generation Alexander Dennis electric buses

Alexander Dennis announced that it has taken a firm order from British bus company First Bus for 17 next-generation zero-emission buses.

12 Enviro200EV and five Enviro100EV will be delivered in 2026 for use on Bath city services. They will be part of a wider investment by First Bus in electric buses and associated charging infrastructure in the West of England, supported by government funding from the Department for Transport’s Zero-Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme which the operator secured through the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.

Each of the 12 Enviro200EV will be 10.9m long and offer 33 fixed passenger seats alongside five additional tip-up seats available when the wheelchair and buggy bays are not otherwise occupied. With its short overhangs and narrow width of 2.47m, the Enviro200EV is well suited to navigate Bath’s historic streets.

Manoeuvrability is even more central to the Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV, five of which are set to join the First Bus fleet in Bath. At a diminutive length of just 8.5m and width of 2.35m, the manufacturer’s “big small bus” offers passengers the same level of accessibility and comfort with 26 seats including six tip-ups.

Both the Enviro200EV and Enviro100EV are powered by the Voith Electrical Drive System, which has demonstrated strong performance in Zemo Partnership zero-emission bus testing including 97% grid-to-wheel efficiency.

Rob Pymm, Commercial Director for First Bus Wales & West, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming these new electric buses to Bath. They’ll bring quiet, clean and comfortable journeys for our customers, while helping to improve air quality and support the city’s sustainability ambitions. This investment marks another important step in our journey to a zero-emission bus fleet.”

Marie Connell, National Account Manager for Alexander Dennis, said: “We are grateful for the confidence placed in us with this first order from First Bus for our next-generation Alexander Dennis electric buses. It follows the successful and ongoing field trial of an Enviro400EV double decker which is being tested by First Bus operating companies across the country.

“With the new Alexander Dennis electric buses, customers in Bath will enjoy a step change in their travel experience with smoother, quieter and cleaner journeys beginning next year.”
