Festive spirit meets future technology: the MAN Christmas truck made a special stop at the Allianz Arena on its traditional tour of social institutions. On board: the first two charging stations for the planned charging park for electric trucks and buses at the Munich North motorway interchange. Bavarian legend Claudio Pizzaro accepted the charging stations on behalf of FC Bayern Munich.
In future, up to 500 eTrucks and eBuses will be able to be charged daily at the Allianz Arena site – a flagship project for the decarbonisation of freight and passenger transport.
The Allianz Arena offers ideal conditions for the charging park: a powerful power grid, 100 per cent use of green electricity, a location at one of Europe’s most important transport hubs and – on non-match days – plenty of available space. Further charging points are planned in several stages of expansion. This means that the charging park will play a central role not only for long-distance transport, but also for FC Bayern Munich’s first all-electric coach.
20 years of the MAN Christmas truck – this year as an electric truck for the first time
It is no coincidence that the first charging station was delivered by the MAN Christmas truck: for 20 years, the festively decorated truck has been bringing joy to the Advent season – and this year, for the first time, it is fully electric. It is based on an MAN eTGX with six battery packs and a range of up to 570 kilometres. Safety is ensured by systems such as MAN OptiView and radar-based turning aids. Ten trainees from the Munich plant lovingly decorated the eTruck over a period of six weeks: around 150 metres of LED fairy lights, golden accents and a shining MAN logo make it a very special kind of “electric sleigh”.
MAN board members and employees will drive the Christmas truck to kindergartens, schools and social institutions as well as to the MAN locations in Munich, Nuremberg, Salzgitter and Wittlich until the end of December. With the first electric Christmas truck, MAN combines tradition and innovation – and sends a strong signal for sustainability and social commitment.
