A Davies Transport invests in 15 Volvo FH Aeros

Ossett-based A Davies Transport is reaping the rewards of 15 new Volvo FH Aeros, selected due to the marque’s brand reputation for reliability and product performance. The trucks – replacing similar models previously provided by a competing brand – will operate nationwide, completing palletised deliveries.

Supplied by Ben Fenton, Area Sales Manager, Crossroads Truck and Bus, the new FH Aero 500 6×2 tractor units join a 35-strong commercial vehicle fleet, of which more than half are now supplied by the Swedish manufacturer.

The business’ Managing Director, Andy Davies, says: “Volvo stood out to us for several reasons. The pricing was competitive and the reputation of the product gave us confidence that the vehicles would perform well across our UK operations. Our drivers have settled into the new trucks quickly and feedback has been consistently positive. They have adapted well to the updated technology onboard and the vehicles are proving to be a strong fit for our palletised distribution work.

“The level of service from Crossroads Truck and Bus also made a big difference. Their assistance and attention to detail made the decision straightforward and gave us certainty that we were choosing a partner who understands our business and the demands of the routes we run every day.”

A Davies Transport’s FH Aeros are each powered by a Euro 6-compliant D13TC Step E engine, producing 500 hp and a peak torque of 2,800 Nm. All are paired with a 12-speed automated I-Shift gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control to yield substantial sustainability and operational gains.

Inside the trucks’ Globetrotter XL cabs, the focus has been to ensure the firm’s team of hard-working drivers are as comfortable as possible. This includes leather interior, microwave oven, fridge and dual armrests.

The smart exterior of the new FH Aeros sees each sport the business’ striking red and yellow livery – applied in an enhanced paint finish – complemented by colour-matched Alcoa Dura-Bright Alloys.

Operating from its West Yorkshire base, the trucks will support A Davies Transport’s full load, part load and pallet network distribution services. Typically on the road for five days a week, the trucks are each expected to clock up to 140,000 km annually, staying on the fleet for the next five years.

In addition to its new tractor units, A Davies Transport has also recently acquired an 18-tonne Volvo FE 4×2 rigid, which will operate locally across the Wakefield postcode.

Family-owned A Davies Transport was founded in 2007. In addition to its distribution work, the business also offers storage and warehousing solutions from its Ossett headquarters.
