The Waste Management and City Cleaning Service of the City of Chemnitz has been relying on Mercedes-Benz Econic vehicles for municipal waste collection for around 20 years. The fleet has now been expanded and modernized once again. A total of eleven new vehicles were recently handed over to the operation at the Mercedes?Benz Trucks Customer Experience Center in Wörth am Rhein.
The new vehicles will be used as rear loaders with compactor bodies from various manufacturers and will operate in single-shift mode throughout the urban area of Chemnitz. Typically, each vehicle is staffed with two to three employees.
One major advantage of the Econic is its low entry height. Especially in the daily work of waste collection, which involves frequent entering and exiting of the vehicle, this provides significant relief for the crew while also reducing the risk of injury. This is complemented by the excellent all-round visibility from the cab. Large glass surfaces, along with supporting systems such as cameras and reversing assistants, can help increase safety in road traffic.
“The Econic has proven itself in our daily operations for many years. The combination of low entry height and great visibility brings real benefits for our employees while also enhancing safety in urban traffic,” says Sven Postel, Head of Department at the Waste Management and City Cleaning Service of the City of Chemnitz.
The Mercedes?Benz Econic is specifically designed for use in urban environments. Its design and maneuverability make it particularly suitable for narrow streets and heavy city traffic. In addition, its chassis can be flexibly combined with various body types, making it a well?established vehicle in municipal waste collection for many years.
“We are pleased to continue our long-standing cooperation with the Waste Management and City Cleaning Service of the City of Chemnitz through this vehicle handover. The Econic is perfectly tailored to the needs of municipal waste collection,” says André Ulbricht from Truck Sales at Schloz Wöllenstein in Chemnitz.
