Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles shines a light on farmers’ wellbeing at the 2026 edition of Britain’s Fittest Farmer – an annual competition designed for the agricultural community to demonstrate the power of exercise in keeping physically and mentally fit.
With competitors battling it out over a series of strength and conditioning challenges, including a return of the grueling ‘Amarok pull’, the final of this year’s competition was held over the weekend at Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm, where four category winners were crowned:
- Charlotte Merson in the female under 40 category;
- Paul Harrison in the male under 40 category;
- Claire Morton in the female over 40 category;
- Edward Holmes in the male over 40 category.
Established eight years ago by Farmers Weekly, this marks the fourth consecutive year of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ sponsorship, as the brand continues to champion the essential work done by farmers across the country.
During the final, visitors got to take a look at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ range of models designed to keep up with a hard day’s work. This included the new Transporter and the Amarok pick-up truck which benefits from a robust design, 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and 4MOTION off-road capability.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also provided a recovery and hydration station to support competitors through the intense rounds of fitness challenges.
Andrew Meredith, Editor of Farmers Weekly, commented: “I’d like to congratulate the winners and competitors in all of the categories of Britain’s Fittest Farmer. Now in its nineth year, the contest continues to go from strength to strength, with a pleasing blend of familiar faces and new applicants putting themselves to the test each time. Farming’s sense of community has always been one of its strong points and we are so pleased to contribute to the cheerful mission of persuading farmers to get off farm for a much-needed change of scene – even if it isn’t exactly relaxing!”
Laura Bignall, Brand and Performance Marketing Manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Britain’s Fittest Farmer. It is a huge achievement, and reflects the strength and resilience shown by UK farmers across the country every day. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is proud to work with the farming community and to provide products and services that enable their vital work.”
