Masternaut has made bus travel easier with its new free app for the Apple iPhone and iPad. First developed for passengers using The Kings Ferry coach services in south-east England (http://www.thekingsferry.co.uk/commuter-services), the CoachTrac app allows passengers to find the nearest bus stop, check schedules and live view the location of the coach on its route.
CoachTrac is the first consumer iPhone app from the Leeds-based vehicle tracking company and is downloadable from the Apple iTunes store www.itunes.apple.com. It allows passengers to find the nearest bus stop easily using their current location or by postcode or place name. The app locates bus stops and can navigate the traveller to the closest stop using digital street maps displayed on iPhone. Users can also live track coaches en route using Masternaut’s satellite tracking system which is fitted to King’s Ferry coaches.
“CoachTrac allows busy travellers to plan their commuting time around bus departures and arrivals, which takes the stress out of commuting. For office workers it also means that can manage their time better because they no longer need to worry about missing their bus home as they can quickly find out alternative pick up times. With this flexibility they benefit from building up flex-time hours or even taking a break with their colleagues at the end of the working day,” says Johann Levy, Research and Development Manager, Masternaut Three X.
CoachTrac runs on any iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with iOS 3.0 or later. As well as providing real-time coach tracking and navigation to convenient bus stops, it also provides additional travel information. For example, passengers can use the system to identify restricted travel days and times.
CoachTrac adds to Masternaut’s other groundbreaking iPhone apps – Rapide for fleet managers on the move and MCC Mobile for field service engineers.
