Customer focus is a top priority for Mercedes-Benz Trucks and a cornerstone of the business strategy. Corporate owned retail and service centers (Own Retail) play a key role due to the direct interaction between company and customers. Investments in the Own Retail network will help increase the service share and thus the resilience of Mercedes-Benz Trucks.
In addition to new locations (Munich-Aschheim), expansions of existing sites (Würzburg) and acquisitions of existing operations (Passau), the Mercedes-Benz Koblenz commercial vehicle center is also one of the key Own Retail projects. An entirely new building will be constructed on the southern part of the site on Friedrich-Mohr-Strasse starting in autumn 2026. For this purpose, the current building dating back to 1963, most recently used as a logistics hall, will be dismantled from spring 2026. The current branch on the northern part of the site will remain open to customers until the new building is commissioned.
On around 4,000 square meters of built-up floor area, sales and service for Mercedes-Benz trucks as well as service for Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses will be offered in Koblenz from early 2028. The new commercial vehicle center will also serve as a central point of contact for the financial services business of Daimler Truck Financial Services and as a rental location for CharterWay vehicles.
Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services Mercedes-Benz Trucks: “The truck business is characterized by a high level of complexity, intensive consulting requirements and strong customer relationships. Through our company-owned retail operations and locations, we maintain close dialogue with our customers and continuously develop products and services. That is why we are convinced that our Own Retail operations will continue to be decisive for our success in the future. We plan to expand our Own Retail network by more than 60 percent by 2030. The complete renewal of existing locations, such as now in Koblenz, also plays an important role in our strategy.”
Volker Hüntrup, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Own Retail, Europe: “In addition to acquisitions in our European core markets, such as France, we continue to invest in Germany. We will take over the Passau Sperrwies site from Josef Paul GmbH on April 1. We celebrated the expansion of our Würzburg site with our customers in May last year, opened our new building in Aschheim near Munich in September, and are currently working on expanding the commercial vehicle center in Hamburg. The expansion of our manufacturer-owned sales network continues steadily. In doing so, we are consistently implementing our strategy.”
Efficient use of space through cooperation with the Kestenholz Group
The site on Friedrich-Mohr-Strasse in Koblenz has proven its value to customers since its opening in 1963: it is conveniently located directly on federal highway B9 and has excellent connections to motorways A48, A61 and A3.
To ensure optimal future use of the site on which the current Mercedes-Benz Koblenz commercial vehicle center stands, Daimler Truck has partnered with the Kestenholz Group, a Swiss family-owned company and long-standing partner of Mercedes-Benz in the passenger car and commercial vehicle sectors. While Daimler Truck will build its new commercial vehicle center for sales and service of Mercedes-Benz trucks as well as service for Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses on the southern part of the property, Kestenholz will construct a site for sales and service of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and vans on the northern part.
About the new building in Koblenz
The future Mercedes-Benz Koblenz commercial vehicle center will be well prepared for the future of transportation from the outset. For example, high-voltage workstations will be installed on the approximately 3,000-square-meter workshop area to enable servicing of battery-electric models such as the Mercedes-Benz eActros and eEconic trucks, as well as the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro city bus and the eIntouro intercity bus. In addition, a highly modern, flexibly adaptable workstation will be created in Koblenz to enable work on vehicle roofs – on truck cabs or bus roofs. This so-called roof workstation is particularly relevant for the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric city bus, as its batteries are mounted on the roof.
A special feature of the Koblenz site: Daimler Truck supplies all German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) locations in Germany with Mercedes-Benz truck spare parts from Koblenz. In addition, the commercial vehicle center specializes in maintaining engines for Mercedes-Benz trucks used by the Bundeswehr. Daimler Truck is consistently implementing its growth strategy in the defence business. By introducing new vehicle variants and further qualifying the existing sales and service network, Daimler Truck aims to respond even faster and with a broader offering to customer requirements in the defense sector.
Sustainability at the site
For a future-proof and climate-friendly energy supply, a photovoltaic system with an output of around 300 kilowatt peak (kWp) will be installed at the site. Heating will be provided by highly efficient heat pumps – meaning no fossil fuels will be required and the entire site can be operated CO2e-neutrally. Sustainable solutions are also being implemented in water management: rainwater from yard and roof areas will be collected in a natural retention basin and allowed to seep into the ground, so that no rainwater is discharged into the public sewer system. The water used at the site will be treated via a state-of-the-art biological wastewater treatment system and reused in a closed loop – conserving valuable drinking water.
Charging infrastructure for electric mobility is of course also planned for the site, both for employee and customer passenger cars as well as for trucks and buses. In addition, Milence charging parks in Koblenz and Mogendorf are located near the site. The joint venture founded in 2022 by Daimler Truck, the Traton Group and the Volvo Group focuses on charging stations along highways and major traffic routes.
