Emissions-free store deliveries by 2030

Lidl Austria is consistently driving its e-mobility offensive forward and, in addition to the14 battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 units already delivered, has signed another framework agreement for 42 battery-electric units, which will be delivered by mid-2027. By the end of the year, the first 20 e-trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks will be in use for nationwide store deliveries. At the same time, the most powerful pure truck charging network in Austrian grocery retail is being established.

Recently, the first eActros 600 vehicles were ceremoniously put into operation during the opening of the new charging park at Lidl’s logistics site in Laakirchen. Lidl Austria CEO Michael Kunz presented the new trucks and the powerful on-site infrastructure to Austria’s Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure, Peter Hanke, in the presence of Daimler Truck Austria CEO Jens Tittel.

As part of its group-wide climate strategy “Net Zero by 2050,” Lidl Austria is focusing on developing sustainable transport concepts, making it a pioneer in Austrian grocery retail. Electric trucks have been in daily use since 2024. The vehicles use 100% green electricity, for example, generated by photovoltaic systems on the roofs of logistics centers.

Since mid-August, the first models of the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 have been in continuous operation. “We are very proud of the successful market launch of the eActros 600 in Austria. We are also delighted to support Lidl on its journey towards sustainable transport. This demonstrates that electrification in national long-haul and distribution transport is becoming a reality,” said Jens Tittel, CEO Daimler Truck Austria.
