Supplied by Alistair Mann, Area Sales Manager, Crossroads Truck & Bus, the Volvo FH joins a family-run business which has served the region’s agricultural community for more than 60 years.
Georgia Saunt, granddaughter of company director Stuart Saunt, says: “We have several long-serving drivers in the business and believe in providing them with quality equipment that they can take pride in operating. This Volvo FH was purchased with one of those drivers very much in mind.
“Volvo offered us the right combination of driver comfort, support and suitability for the work we do. The truck spends its time on rural roads where visibility and ease of operation are important. The Globetrotter cab’s higher driving position is well suited to those conditions, and the early feedback has reinforced that we made the right choice.”
Rewarding loyalty with comfort, visibility and performance
Operating from the family-run farm just east of Hull, the Volvo FH Lite is engaged in agricultural haulage work in East Yorkshire, with its typical workload involving transporting grain and seed to and from local mills.
However, the tractor unit is also unique within the fleet, being the only vehicle specified with ADR equipment for the transportation of fertiliser, a specialist element of Johnson & Saunt’s operation.
The truck is powered by a Euro-6 compliant D13K Step E engine, producing 500 hp and a peak torque of 2,500 Nm. It is driven by Volvo’s popular automated 12-speed I-Shift transmission, which constantly evaluates information about speed, weight, road grade and torque demand to enable perfectly timed gearshifts.
Driver comfort in the FH is assured thanks to a spacious and well-equipped Globetrotter cab, featuring dual armrests, an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt, extra cab storage and leather upholstery.
To guarantee maximum uptime and peace of mind, the new truck is backed by a Volvo Gold Contract, including preventive maintenance and repairs. The tractor unit is expected to remain on the fleet for at least five years, working six days a week while covering up to 80,000 annually.
Johnson & Saunt Ltd is a third-generation, family-run agricultural business based in East Yorkshire. The company supplies grain, fertiliser and seed to customers across the region, while also providing haulage, storage, drying and colour-sorting services.
