MAN eTGL: Refrigerated box body variant celebrates world premiere

At Solutrans 2025 in Lyon, MAN Truck & Bus is presenting a new variant of its all-electric MAN eTGL chassis specifically for refrigerated box bodies. This means that the 12-tonne truck now also enables the locally emission-free and very quiet distribution transport of temperature-sensitive goods, such as foodstuffs. A high-voltage interface enables the refrigeration unit to be supplied directly from the vehicle electrical network – efficiently and weight-optimised. MAN’s all-electric refrigerated logistics portfolio thus spans twelve to 42 tonnes.

With a usable battery capacity of 160 kWh, the range of the MAN eTGL is up to 310 kilometres without intermediate charging, depending on the structure and use – more than sufficient for typical day trips in urban and regional distribution transport. Innovative fast-charging technology recharges the two batteries from ten to 80 percent in around 35 minutes. This makes optimal use of break and unloading times and increases the daily range to up to 600 kilometres.

“With the new eTGL for refrigerated logistics, we are significantly expanding the range of applications of our lightweight eTruck. Together with eTGX and eTGS, we now have a highly efficient zero-emission portfolio for temperature-controlled logistics – from inner-city distribution transport to long-distance transport,” says Friedrich Baumann, Member of the Executive Board for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus.

Like its big brothers eTGX and eTGS, the MAN eTGL benefits from current efficiency improvements: more economical auxiliary systems, more consistent waste heat utilisation and improved driving functions increase the range by around ten per cent. An eTGX semitrailer with six batteries can now reach up to 570 kilometres, an eTGX Solo chassis with box body up to 870 kilometres without intermediate charging

Field-proven efficiency from the MAN eTruck modular system

The MAN eTGL is based on the proven 12-tonne model from the diesel portfolio. With a payload of up to 6.6 tonnes, a wheelbase of 4,500 mm, body lengths of between 6,200 and 7,300 mm and cab access with only one step, the eTGL is ideal for urban distribution transport. The fully digital 12.3-inch display provides information about the charge level, range and energy consumption.

For energy supply and drive, the eTGL uses the same electric component toolkit as the heavy-duty eTruck series MAN eTGX and eTGS. These include the battery packs developed by MAN and produced at the Nuremberg plant, each with a usable battery capacity of 80 kWh, as well as the smallest of the three available drive variants with a 285 hp electric motor and two-speed gearbox, which is centrally installed in the frame.

A special feature of MAN is the modular battery concept specially adapted to commercial vehicles. It enables a large number of individual semitrailer and chassis variants, so that almost all transport tasks previously carried out with diesel trucks can now be carried out fully electrically – from the 42-tonne low-liner for volume transports to classic construction tippers and three-axle waste collectors to the 12-tonne deep-freeze distributor for supermarket delivery.

MAN e-technology has demonstrated strong performance for customers in logistics practice: MAN eTrucks impress with low energy consumption, fast charging and a long range. Around 400 MAN eTGX and eTGS have already covered more than nine million kilometres in customer service in just under a year – with a low average consumption of around 93 kWh per 100 kilometres.

Comprehensive eMobility consulting and services

As with the MAN eTGX and eTGS, 360-degree eMobility Consulting is also available to customers of the MAN eTGL: The advice on switching to electromobility includes, among other things, customer-specific analyses of vehicle deployment and charging infrastructure requirements – especially for refrigerated logistics.

The MAN eTGL in the Solutrans trade fair concept

The MAN eTGL as a refrigerated vehicle will celebrate its world premiere embedded in MAN Truck & Bus’ trade fair appearance at Solutrans 2025 (Stand C011 – Hall 3). On more than 1,000 m², MAN will be presenting its complete range of zero-emission solutions. In addition to the eTGL, the heavy-duty electric trucks eTGX and eTGS as well as the hydrogen combustion engine MAN hTGX – winner of the Truck Innovation Award 2025 – are also part of the trade fair appearance. Specialist presentations such as the “MAN Experts Talks” and the 360-degree eMobility consultation round off the concept and show how MAN is facilitating the switch to electric mobility. In addition, visitors can experience a version of the eTGL with a dry freight case for themselves on the outdoor test track.
