The Renault Trucks D earns a 4-star Euro NCAP rating

The Renault Trucks D, a vehicle designed for distribution, has been awarded 4 stars in the 2026 Euro NCAP rating. This assessment programme, which is a European benchmark for vehicle safety performance, has released the results of its latest campaign targeting heavy-duty trucks.  The Renault Trucks D also received the CitySafe label which recognises the safest vehicles for urban driving and the protection of vulnerable road users.

It is the first time that the Renault Trucks D* has submitted to Euro NCAP assessment and it immediately achieved a robust 4-star rating, confirming the effectiveness of its active and passive safety features. The independent road safety body highlighted the quality of the driver assistance and collision avoidance systems fitted to the Renault Trucks D.

Systems specifically designed for urban environments

Euro NCAP singled out driver visibility for praise, in particular:

  • The optional passenger-side vision door with lower window which improves the driver’s direct vision.
  • The high-performance indirect vision systems: optional panoramic vision and passenger-side cameras.

Various features for a more relaxed driver experience:

  • Distance alert if the truck is too close to the vehicle ahead.
  • Advanced safety systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and an Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEB).

According to Euro NCAP: “the ACC and AEB proved extremely effective in the case of rear collisions with other vehicles. The AEB also performed well in frontal collisions with pedestrians and cyclists.” Furthermore, a recent update guarantees that the AEB system is automatically reactivated after 15 minutes in the event of deactivation, thereby offering continuous protection to the driver and other road users.

The total safe driving score obtained by the Renault Trucks D stands at 75%: 59% for collision avoidance and 80% for post-accident systems.

The Renault Trucks D’s wide range of safety features also earned it the City Safe label. This means that it ranks among the safest vehicles for urban driving and the protection of vulnerable road users.

Euro NCAP assessment: a driver of road safety

Since 1997, Euro NCAP has played an important role in raising safety standards in passenger cars.  It has been extending its testing to heavy-duty trucks since 2024, encouraging the whole sector to adopt even more advanced safety technology and equipment. Renault Trucks fully supports this movement which boosts the safety of truck drivers and all other road users.

Renault Trucks’ long-haul vehicle, the Renault Trucks T, and distribution model, the Renault Trucks D were both awarded a 4-star Euro NCAP rating and the CitySafe label.

The 2026 assessment is based on a 1- to-5-star scale covering three areas:

  • Safe driving: evaluation of driver monitoring systems, direct and indirect visibility, as well as driver assistance systems.
  • Collision avoidance: evaluation of how the vehicle handles frontal collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, lane changes and low-speed manoeuvres.
  • Post-accident systems: information for first responders and accessibility for emergency intervention.
