490 TGE Vehicles for the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW)

MAN Truck & Bus Germany has received a major order from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW). A total of 490 vehicles based on the MAN TGE will be delivered for use in civil protection and disaster response, including 350 command vehicles and 140 crew transport vehicles. With this order, MAN is further expanding its collaboration with THW and, for the first time, supplying TGE vehicles to the federal authority. The vehicles will be deployed throughout Germany and will support the work of volunteer responders.

“The order from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief demonstrates that the MAN TGE has proven itself even in demanding governmental operational contexts. Projects like these require reliability, flexibility, and close coordination with body manufacturers. We are delighted that our complete package has convinced THW and that we can deliver vehicles tailored to different operational needs,” says Christian Götz, Head of TGE Sales at MAN Truck & Bus Germany.

Clearly Defined Operational Profiles for Different Requirements

The two vehicle types are designed to meet different operational requirements. The crew transport vehicles primarily serve to transport personnel and equipment. At the same time, they can also be used on site as mobile work and coordination spaces.

The command vehicles play a central role in operational management. They are equipped as mobile command centers and enable communication, situation assessment, and coordination directly at the deployment site. As such, they make a significant contribution to THW’s command capabilities in complex emergency situations.

With the procurement of these vehicles, THW is specifically strengthening its operational capabilities. The combination of transport, communication, and coordination functions allows for flexible use of the vehicles in a wide range of deployment scenarios.

Timeline from Prototype to Series Delivery

The crew transport vehicles were commissioned in January 2025, with prototypes delivered in December 2025. Following successful testing, series production is scheduled to begin in August 2026.

The order for the 350 command vehicles followed in March 2026, with prototypes planned from December 2026 and series deliveries starting in July 2027.

Collaboration with Body Manufacturer

In implementing the project, MAN Truck & Bus Germany is working with body manufacturer Wietmarscher Ambulanz- und Sonderfahrzeug GmbH (WAS), which is responsible as the general contractor for integrating the special superstructures. The collaboration includes vehicle-specific customization to meet THW requirements as well as preparation for use in disaster response.

MAN TGE: Ten Years in Operation

This order comes in a special year for MAN’s van business: the MAN TGE has now been on the market for ten years. Since its introduction, the vehicle has established itself in a variety of applications, including commercial use, municipal tasks, and specialized government vehicles.
