Encompassing DAF Transport Efficiency on DAF Trucks’ stand (NEC, Hall 5 5T90-W91) at RWM ’16 – and its focus on reducing operating costs – two DAF ‘Construction’ specification models, ideal for waste and recycling applications, will be on display from the market leader’s LF and CF ranges.
LF 220 FA (4×2 skip-loader)
From its lightweight LF range, a DAF Construction LF 220 FA skip-loader provides a wide range of waste and recycling operators with a class-leading turning circle and an extremely low kerb-weight for maximum payload. This 18-tonne variant is designed for rugged reliability and is equipped with a high-mounted bumper, radiator protection plate and robust cab-step arrangement – giving a high ground clearance of 32cm and an approach angle of 25 degrees to provide maximum mobility on site.
Power comes via a 6.7-litre PACCAR PX-7 engine producing 220bhp and 850Nm of torque, coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox and a single-drive rear-axle. Steel parabolic suspension and a vertical exhaust discharge completes the tough, no-nonsense chassis specification. DAF Trucks’ RWM exhibit is equipped with ‘Hyvalift’ skip-loader equipment from Hyva UK.
The LF Day Cab is regarded as the premium cab for the construction and waste sector. Well-appointed yet tough and durable, and with ‘big-truck’ driver appeal in abundance.
CF 510 FTT (6×4 tractor-unit)
Heading-up DAF Trucks’ RWM stand is a CF 510 FTT tractor unit. Again, DAF’s Construction specification, and a 6×4 axle configuration, are ideal for on- / off-road operation, and particularly for waste transfer to landfill walking-floor and ejection trailer applications. This Construction CF exhibit has a nine tonne straight-beam front axle to provide high ground clearance while high articulation steel suspension and double-drive hub-reduction axles on the rear-bogie provide sure-footed traction when the going gets tough.
A high-powered power plant comes in the shape of a 12.9-litre PACCAR MX-13 delivering 510bhp and 2,500Nm of torque. This large amount of power is well-matched to a 12-speed AS-Tronic automated gearbox with on- / off-road software. When engaged, and thanks to very progressive clutch operation and ultra-fast gear shift, the off-road mode provides almost uninterrupted tractive power to the drive-axles. Dynamic pull-away on unstable or soft ground is also assured. The vehicle on display is one of three new vehicles to this specification entering service with specialist fleet management and hire company, NRG Fleet Services.
Outside exhibit – CF 290 FAN (6×2 rear-steer)
DAF Trucks is also exhibiting a CF 290 FAN rear-steering 6×2 chassis at the entrance to this year’s show. The 26-tonne GVW vehicle is complete with an NTM-manufactured KGHH-FK refuse collection body and NTM Barlift. This is the third of three vehicles to this DAF / NTM specification being supplied to waste recycling specialist, Grundon. DAF’s FAN rear-steer and FAG mid-steer configurations provides improved manouevrability thanks to an exceptionally tight turning circle.
A wide range of DAF vehicles sporting a diverse array of bodywork to suit municipal and utility applications can also be found at RWM ‘16, underscoring DAF Trucks’ dominance in the waste and construction sectors and demonstrating the adaptability of DAF’s LF lightweight and CF middleweight ranges.
