Ryder has won a 40 month rental contract for the provision of trucks, tractors and trailers to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) covering the supply of vehicles in the UK.
The contract, which is worth approximately £3.5 million per annum, commenced in May 2012 and includes an option of a 12 month extension. Under the contract, Ryder will provide all types and gross weights of HGVs above 7.5 tonnes, including standard rental trucks, tractors and trailers, as well as fridge trucks of 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes. In addition, Ryder will manage the provision of specialist equipment such as tankers, horse-boxes, truck-mounted cranes and ammunition carriers.
“Ryder has a long history of supplying vehicles to the public sector, to local government ‘blue light’ operations and to the MOD,” comments David Hunt, Ryder’s Vice President and Managing Director, FMS Europe. “So, we are fully conversant with MOD transport requirements and regulations. This new contract enables Ryder to provide a comprehensive range of high specification and fuel-efficient vehicles that all meet Euro 5 specification.”
The tender process was managed by Babcock International Group Plc, the MOD’s fleet management service provider. Julian Jones, Babcock’s Operations Director, Phoenix, comments, “The Ryder solution moulded the optimum blend of value for money and operational capability to deliver the MOD’s requirements going forward.”
Steve O’Leary, the MOD’s Phoenix Programme Manager, adds, “Ryder has an outstanding reputation for supplying vehicles for MOD operations both in the UK and in Europe. It won this tender process against stiff competition and I look forward to working with the Ryder team during the coming months to deliver the capabilities and efficiencies we demand.”
