Bedford Borough Council has taken delivery of a new fleet of sweepers from Johnston Sweepers to service its busy street cleansing programme.
The consignment is made up of five C201 compact machines and three brand new VT651 truck mounted sweepers, launched by Johnston earlier this year. The new machines are Johnston’s most efficient and environmentally friendly truck sweepers yet, powered by one of the cleanest engines available, produced by JCB.
Bedford chose the Johnstons principally for their fuel economy and environmental impact, the compacts being one of the quietest sweepers available and exceeding PM10 dust capture requirements, and the trucks supplying longest ever on-station time for maximum efficiency.
The Council also liked the data capture facility, according to Paul Watkins, Fleet Manager for Bedford BC. “We evaluated the various sweepers submitted for tender and found the Johnston machines to offer us the greatest value for money for our residents, while also meeting our environmental and performance requirements”, he says. “We particularly liked the data capture facility which we see as a valuable tool in the monitoring and management of costs and operational efficiency.”
The sweepers are already in busy service, keeping the borough’s streets, footpaths and public areas clean for Bedford’s residents and businesses.
