Diesel Car magazine is pleased to reveal the winners of its used car of the year awards 2012, with Ford’s Fiesta snapping up the top spot. Toyota’s Prius grabs the top spot for Best Used Eco Car 2012.
The used car market is a crowded one, and with money so tight, it is even more important than ever to make sure that you choose the very best and don’t end up with a duffer. This year’s awards are sponsored by Evolution Chips, one of the leaders in the diesel engine tuning industry, and encompass nine categories with an overall winner.
In announcing the winners, Ian Robertson, Editor of Diesel Car Magazine said: “I’m really pleased to be able to announce the Ford Fiesta as Diesel Car’s Used Car of the Year 2012.” He went on to say, “The Fiesta suits all budgets and is the right car for the times. From youngsters as a first time buy, right the way up to families looking for a second car, it totally fits the bill.”
As well as grabbing overall winner with the Fiesta, and best small car, Ford also hit the headlines grabbing three other awards for best large car, best estate car and best MPV courtesy of the Mondeo, Mondeo Estate and S-MAX respectively. Nissan’s British built Qashqai gained the title of best medium car, while the previous generation BMW 5 Series stole the best executive car award, beating the Jaguar XF and BMW 3 Series to the top spot.
Land Rover’s Freelander 2 adds the best 4×4 to its long list of accolades, and Audi’s TT is named best sports car. Toyota’s previous model Prius beat the current generation Toyota Prius and Lexus RX 400h to be named best eco car.
