MAN Truck & Bus UK offers a wide range of chassis cabs that have become firm favourites with municipal operators, Fire & Rescue services, the British Armed Forces and a host of more routine commercial businesses, including a high proportion of the country’s hazardous goods operators. Little wonder then that a prestigious body-builder such as Scarab Sweepers, a global frontrunner in the design, manufacturing and supply of compact and truck-mounted road sweepers, routinely finds itself fitting its extensive range of truck-mounted products to the MAN line-up.
The MAN chassis frame is configured as a ‘Ladder’ type. The tubular cross members offer great rigidity and strength, yet at the same time allow the necessary flexibility required to deliver outstanding ride and handling characteristics. Adding significantly to the practicality of the chassis in body-building situations, the straight Flat Top design offers an outstandingly usable and uncluttered platform. In essence, all the essential components are mounted within the chassis rails and below the top flange, contributing to the easier and faster mounting of either simple or complicated body work. For a top quality body-builder such as Scarab, this means MAN does not need to make as many chassis changes before the sweeper body is fitted. Scarab themselves contribute to this simplicity and efficiency, using a hydrostatic drive system that integrates well with the MAN driveline and allowing the necessary sweeping speeds to be achieved and maintained easily and consistently. Alongside this, the MAN electronic infrastructure has proved itself in countless bodying situations to be simple and easy to connect.
For operator reassurance and enhanced driver acceptance, based on the Euro 5 MAN TGM series, the 15t chassis shown here features the MAN D0836 6 cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers a range of power outputs up to 326hp. The chassis also features rear air suspension, while the ‘C’ Day Cab offers drivers very high levels of comfort during both slow-speed sweeping operations and normal driving from and to base. As 2014 gathers pace of course, MAN will be delivering its new range of Euro 6 chassis, though the well-proven principles behind the success of its chassis cabs for so many years continue at the forefront of the company’s design processes. Behind all this of course, both now and in the future, stands the MAN Network of customer support Service Centres, offering 24 hour a day, 365 days a year cover across both the UK and mainland Europe.
