Leading infrastructure services company FM Conway has announced that it is investing £7 million in its vehicle fleet. This is part of its ongoing efforts to “lead environmental best practice” within the construction industry.

The move comes in advance of the proposed extension of London’s Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) – which has been out for consultation. The Mayor of London’s plans would see the ULEZ standard expanded city-wide for lorries from 2020. North and South circular roads for all vehicles would follow from late 2021.

In total, FM Conway is investing in 25 new HGVs and 136 1.5 tonne, 3.5 tonne and 7.5 tonne vehicles. The new purchases include 60 7.5 tonne vehicles and 17 eight-wheel tippers. These meet Euro Six standards, and will transport highway arisings and recycled-content asphalt mixes to and from FM Conway’s operational sites and its recycling plants around the capital.

The new vehicles, due between Q1 2018 and Q1 2019, will bring the company’s liveried fleet beyond 900 vehicles. It has invested £235 million in infrastructure over the past decade to support its commitment to sustainable construction and self-delivery approach to projects. This has included developing its own network of materials recycling centres. The company has also pledged ongoing investment to ensure its vehicles comply with and, where possible, exceed current environmental standards.

Peter Parle, FM Conway’s Transport  Manager, said: “Whether it’s investing in plant and vehicle emission technology or cycle safety, FM Conway aims to pave the way on best practice for construction logistics. This latest move will ensure that our vehicle fleet continues to meet the highest environmental standards. This will help to improve London’s air quality and supporting our many construction projects in the capital.”

FM Conway delivers construction and maintenance services for roads, buildings, structures and public spaces across London and the south east. Through its self-delivery model the company offers comprehensive service, from production and design to construction and maintenance. Using its in-house expertise, materials supply chain, plant and equipment, the company can deliver better, faster and more cost-effective projects for its clients and the public.
