Commercial vehicle hire specialist Ryder has extended its exclusive deal with the world’s largest tyre and rubber manufacturer Bridgestone, becoming the company’s largest truck customer in Europe.
The contract, which started in March 2012, has been extended to cover Ryder’s expanded network following its acquisition of Hill Hire in June 2011. Ryder now operates out of 29 locations and has an enlarged fleet of more than 24,000 trucks and trailers.
The contract will be serviced through Bridgestone’s independent dealer network Truck Point. Bridgestone and Truck Point have had a supply partnership with Ryder for the past 17 years.
Ryder Fleet Services Director Terry Dillon said: “As this new contract demonstrates, our acquisition of Hill Hire is now translating into benefits for more customers. The enhanced buying power of the combined business will ensure reliability and consistency of tyre quality across our national network, enabling us to offer an improved service.
“All of our new and retread tyres will be sourced from Bridgestone. As well as being environmentally friendly they are highly economical, delivering very low operating costs per kilometre.”
Bridgestone UK Commercial Sales Director Greg Ward said: “We are delighted to take our long term working relationship with Ryder to this new level. Seventeen years ago, Ryder became the first managed truck fleet in Bridgestone’s portfolio and over the years they have helped us evolve our service offer. They have been the genesis of our fleet management systems.”
