FACTS spoke to Gordon Henderson, Area Sales & Service Manager (Scotland) at expert road sweeper manufacturers Scarab Sweepers, about what visitors to the Scarab stand at the APSE Scotland Fleet, Waste and Grounds Seminar in May can expect.

FACTS: Are you and the team looking forward to the show?

Gordon Henderson: The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) trade show in Aviemore is always one of the best shows on the calendar in the UK. You are at an excellent venue up in the Scottish Highlands and the facility for networking is second-to-none. The show is always well organised and well-supported by local authorities as well as private contractors from up and down the country. Gaining an insight into the latest and greatest our sector has to offer is always a pleasure. Our attendance at the show over the years has without doubt helped us to grow as an organisation.

FACTS: For how many years has Scarab been attending APSE Scotland’s Fleet, Waste and Grounds Seminar?

Gordon Henderson: We have been going since the 1990’s, either via an agent or us directly. We will be a main sponsor of an evening event which we are all looking forward to. There is always a relaxed environment at night, where people can mingle and socialise. In my experience, you do not get this to the same extent at any other event.

FACTS: What will you be showcasing on the stand this year?

Gordon Henderson: We will have a varied selection of Scarab equipment on the stand, including our MC 110 sub-compact sweeper. This will make its Scottish debut at the show. In addition, we will also be showcasing the MC 210 compact sweeper and a selection of 4.5-15 tonne truck-mounted sweepers. We have close relationships with many local authorities in Scotland, who we are looking forward to reconnecting with at the show. It is great when these authorities support the event as it was always worthwhile to see each other again.

FACTS: What do you think will be the key topics of conversation on the stand this year?

Gordon Henderson: The ongoing uncertainty over Brexit and its impact on the industry will certainly be discussed. I also expect environmental concerns, given the ongoing introduction of Clean Air and Low Emission Zones, to be a hot topic. In addition, as is always the case in the municipal sector, budgets and costings are on the minds of transport managers. Maximising return on investment is always a concern, given increasingly austere budgets. The team and I will be on hand to discuss our range in its entirety and all the options available to assist in this regard.

FACTS: Who from Scarab Sweepers will be at the show?

Gordon Henderson: I will be on our stand, alongside Andy Farley, Branch Manager (Domestic Sales & After Sales), and Simon Stringer, UK Sales Manager.

FACTS: What would your message be to FACTS readers attending the show this year?

Gordon Henderson: It is one of those events that should not be missed. As a visiting delegate, you get an opportunity not only to see our equipment in person but discuss what we can offer to your organisation in terms of leasing, contract hire and outright purchase options. We can also discuss the extensive optional extras that can be fitted to our sweepers depending on your requirements. These can include an auxiliary or third brush, overhead or rear mounted boom, high pressure water options, scrub decks, weed brush attachments and many different lighting configurations. Every kind of service and maintenance package is available too. Our stand, along with the variety on seminars during the day, make the APSE show in Aviemore this year a must-visit.
