On three consecutive evenings late last July, a Mammoet Wind heavy haulage transporter eased its way out of a factory in the town of Stenstrup, in the southern part of the island of Funen, one of the principle islands of the Denmark archipelago.

88On three consecutive evenings late last July, a Mammoet Wind heavy haulage transporter eased its way out of a factory in the town of Stenstrup, in the southern part of the island of Funen, one of the principle islands of the Denmark archipelago. The three separate loads were all bound for the port of Esbjerg, 280 kilometres away on the north-west coast of Jutland. The loads were identical, three 83.5m long wind-turbine blades, destined for the Fife Renewables Innovation Centre (FRIC) at the port of Methil, in the Firth of Forth on the west coast of Scotland. These were, and remain, the longest wind turbine blades in the world, and they are now installed at the Samsung Heavy Industry (SHI) test site in Methil, towering 180 metres above the calm waters of the Forth estuary. …Read More
