As the fastest growing palletised freight delivery network in the UK, the United Pallet Network represents a revolution for the sector in more ways than one

At first, hearing that a business is not looking for every opportunity to grow sounds strange. But after speaking to United Pallet Network Managing Director David Brown, you understand why pursuing unfettered growth is not always the wisest business model.

“Whilst we are in the ascendency, we are by no means the largest network – but that is not something we are interested in,” said David, speaking to FACTS at the UPN stand at the CV Show 2019.

“As an organisation, we do not blindly chase volumes. What we do focus on however is member growth and development. By cultivating a larger and stronger network of members over the years, we have demonstrated time and time again the lucrative business development opportunities available for hauliers and shippers of palletised freight through collaborating with us.”

Growing from just 18 hauliers at their launch in 2001, UPN now offers nationwide services through a UK network of more than 90 highly skilled independent hauliers in the UK, and European partners providing coverage throughout 26 countries.

Furthermore, UPN offers one of the widest range of pallet definitions available in the UK, from micro pallets weighing up to 150kg to full-size, 1200kg options. This guarantees all customers receive the best value for money possible.

“Catering for all manner of requirements is very important for us at UPN,” said David. “With this in mind, we offer a wide range of UK and Europe-wide services. In the UK, both a priority 24-hour service or standard 48-hour service are on offer.

“Equally, we can provide timed, Pre Noon, Pre 10am or Saturday services, and also accommodate tail lift and oversized deliveries too. This versatility, combined with unrivalled customer support, is one of many qualities that sets us apart from the competition.”

Indeed, quality is a cornerstone of the UPN offering; from their leading-edge IT systems and infrastructure to their customer support that goes the extra mile, UPN delivers more.

“Our network is founded upon some of the most advanced I.T systems in the sector,” commented David. “This includes live signature capture capabilities delivered through a SmartPOD system which uploads all signatures and point of delivery information to servers in real time.

“A mobile track and trace system is also available; this integrates with Google Maps and Street View to keep the customer informed at every step of the load’s journey. In addition, our innovative Customer Input System offers round-the-clock access to input consignment details and real-time freight visibility to ensure all parties have peace-of-mind as to the progress and welfare of their consignment.”

The UPN offering is proving to be attractive too with the addition so far this year of five high profile members to the network. Welsh haulier – Mars Jones Limited, Oxfordshire-based – Xpression Logistics, TWC Logistics of Telford, Lombard Shipping in Suffolk, and Bedfordshire-based Omega Express Couriers. Furthermore, an additional four new members are waiting in the wings to join UPN in the second half of the year.

“I am really pleased to be adding these strong new members to our network,” said David. “They each come with excellent reputations for reliability and service, which aligns exactly with our ethos as a company. Their expertise and knowledge can only improve our network further.”

Ongoing investment back into the business as well as an upcoming move to larger and more modern facilities in Fradley Park in Lichfield indicates the future is bright for not just David and the team at UPN, but their growing network of members too.
