Scotland’s leading plant hire company Jarvie Plant Group has extended its specialised hire fleet with 30 Renault Master Wellbuses, the business being amongst the first to purchase the fully type-approved conversion that was unveiled at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC in Birmingham.
The long-established company, which provides high quality plant, accommodation and vehicle rental from its depots across Scotland, chose the Renault Master Wellbus to meet the increasing call from its rental clients for a vehicle that could ensure the welfare of their workforces on remote sites.
Designed to comply with new European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) regulations that ensure all vehicles are ‘safe to use on the road and have a lower impact on the environment’, the bespoke Wellbus conversion is based on the front-wheel-drive, long-wheelbase Medium Roof Van platform that was introduced in 2014.
Supplied via Parks Renault in East Kilbride, and bought outright by Jarvie Plant Group, the company’s Wellbus conversions are all powered by the 2.3-litre dCi 125 turbo diesel engine and based on the ‘Business’ specification trim level. Like all Renault Light Commercial Vehicles, they also benefit from the Renault 4+ warranty that provides the ultimate peace of mind for four years or 100,000 miles.
The eight-seat Wellbus meets full M1 regulations for vehicles designed and constructed for the carriage of passengers and comprising of no more than eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat. Its rear section is fully heated and usefully can also be power washed or hosed down due to a durable spray-on coating that is added after the partitions and flooring have been completed.
In addition to the generous standard equipment of the Master Panel Van that includes DAB radio, Bluetooth, ESC with Hill Start Assist and Grip Xtend, electric front windows and electric door mirrors, the Wellbus conversion adds five rear crash-tested seats and full mess facilities, including a tea boiler, water heater, microwave oven and sink with washing facilities. A toilet with washing and drying facilities can be accessed through a separate rear door.
The Wellbus conversions are the latest development in the long-standing partnership between Jarvie Plant Group and Renault Group UK. With the acquisition of its Wellbus conversions, the family-owned business now has nearly 100 Renault vehicles available for customers to hire, including Trafic, Kangoo, Scenic and Clio models – over 60 of which have been bought this year.
Stuart Granton, Jarvie Plant Group Finance Director, said: “With recent changes to health and safety legislation, we’ve seen a sizeable increase in demand for welfare vehicles and while we have considered other conversions, the Renault Wellbus is the only suitable vehicle that importantly meets all type approval regulations.
“Customer feedback has been very good and the Wellbuses are proving particularly popular with our clients who are completing projects at sites where there are no facilities, such as working on remote roads and canal towpaths. The specification is excellent and if demand continues, I expect we will be adding more to our fleet.”
Darren Payne, Sales Director, Renault Group UK said: “We are delighted that one of our established partners has been able to find the only solution to its requirements through our latest conversion, which is the highest quality and most versatile Welfare conversion currently available.
“The creation of this full type-approved conversion perfectly illustrates how forward thinking the range of Renault commercials is and also our commitment to providing customers with a vehicle that is tailored to their individual needs but which at the same time comes with the extensive benefits of our Renault Business Quality Commitment.”
