These busses will be operated by the Roman public transport company Atac. All buses will be put into service in the coming months, just in time for the festivities of the papal jubilee year 2025.
DAF Components is a leading, independent supplier of components, such as engines, axles and cabs to manufacturers of buses, coaches, specialised vehicles as well as ships all over the world.
Excellent drivability, comfortable and maximum uptime
The 110 PACCAR MX-11 engines for the Roman city buses offer 270 kW/370 hp. A flat torque curve ensures a smooth drive and maximum passenger comfort, also on the hilly roads and bus lanes in and around Rome.
The cooperation between DAF, Solaris and the Roman public transport sector is proven to be successful. The public transport companies of Rome already run a fleet of no less than 720 PACCAR engine powered Solaris buses. The power units are praised for their unparalleled reliability, efficiency and low maintenance costs. In addition, the maintenance schedule of only one service interval per year ensures maximum uptime of the buses.
Solaris Urbino model buses
The Solaris Urbino is a low entry city bus. The PACCAR MX-11 engine in the Roman buses will be combined with a special automatic transmission for zero emission idling (‘Start-Stop’) and electric support when accelerating. This solution uses energy regenerated during braking.
Jubilee Year
In 2025, Rome will commemorate that ‘Hope never disappoints’, as proclaimed by Pope Francis. Because of this so called ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ papal jubilee year, the city is preparing for the arrival of around 35 million pilgrims. For Rome, reliable and efficient public transport is therefore crucial. Alfred Beuwer, Director DAF Components: “We are proud to once again strengthen the Roman fleet of city buses together with Solaris. It is a true confirmation that our PACCAR engines have proven their reliability and efficiency every day for years and years.”
