CV SHOW 2015 NEWSLETTER
The CV Show is the largest and most comprehensive road freight transport event staged in Britain and provides commercial vehicle operators with far greater choice than any other exhibition serving the industry. Last year the Show attracted 18,884 business visitors and its central location, at the NEC Birmingham, ensured a truly nationwide attendance. Everything is in place for CV Show 2015 to be the business opportunity of the year.
New Mercedes-Benz Vito to launch at CV Show
The long-awaited new Mercedes-Benz Vito will make its UK debut at the CV Show this year.
All examples of the New Vito, on sale from 14 April, will be on display across the 1,200m2 stand – panel van, crew van, Tourer PRO and Tourer Select.
Steve Bridge, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Vans, commented, “The CV Show is the natural choice for unveiling our New Vito for the first time in the UK. We have been long-standing supporters of the event, and it provides a great platform to show off our extensive product range, as well as spending time with existing and potential customers.”
In addition to the New Vito, Mercedes-Benz Vans is showing its range of vehicles, including the Citan small city van and the Sprinter, in all guises, across two areas – stand 5D10 and in the outside exhibition area adjacent to Hall 5.
Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, Used Approved, Insurance and Service and Parts representatives will also be on-hand to highlight everything from competitive finance options through to Service24h free 30-year roadside assistance.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks is also displaying its range of vehicles at the CV Show across the stand and outside area. In total, Mercedes-Benz will display over 40 commercial vehicles.

Alfatronix launches new range of USB chargers
Voltage conversion specialist Alfatronix will launch a new range of integrated USB chargers at this year’s Show.
These products offer the advantage of avoiding the safety issues of mains supply voltages in commercial vehicles, while still providing mobile charging facilities for a wide range of devices.
Whether charging an iPhone on a truck, a tablet on a coach or a Blackberry in a police vehicle, the unique range of USBs offers a compact, efficient and reliable method of power on the move.
There are three different USBs, each incorporating a slim-line version for installation in the back of a coach seat, for example, and an integral version for dash mount, overhead panels or trim applications.
The new chargers are designed to accept inputs of both 12v DC and 24v DC with a 5v DC output voltage and charging capability of 2.1 amps. They are suitable for both Apple and Android accessories and have only one charging port thanks to internal intelligence allowing the charger to detect the type of device attached.
As with all Alfatronix products, they are E marked and CE marked, covered by a lifetime warranty and certified to AES Spec 5 for the emergency services sector.

Iveco Vision concept set to turn heads
Iveco will offer visitors an insight into the future of light commercial vehicle design at the CV Show, where its striking new Vision concept vehicle will make its UK debut.
The Iveco Vision is being used for the development of new technologies and future modes of transport. Unique features include ‘see-through’ front pillars to guarantee unrestricted driver visibility, plus a rear-view camera displayed on a panoramic screen above the windscreen.
Leading the product line-up will be the new Daily, fresh from Iveco’s success of winning the fiercely contested International Van of the Year 2015. Iveco is also using the CV Show as the official UK launch platform for the all-new Hi-Matic gearbox in New Daily; the first eight-speed automatic transmission to feature in a vehicle range in this class.
Expected to make a big impact at the show, and featuring the new Hi-Matic, will be a 3.5 tonne long wheelbase, high-roof, New Daily offering an exceptional 19.6m? loadspace – making it the largest panel van in the UK. Powered by a 205hp engine, it offers 14% more load space than the largest previous-generation Daily van.
Iveco’s truck range will be represented by a trio of models, including a flagship Stralis Hi-Way tractor which will stand out for its ultra-high specification.

Ceramex at the CV Show 2015
Ceramex will exhibit its Diesel Particulate Filter refreshing services at this year’s Show. Used by major OEMs and fleets in Europe and North America, its Xpurge cleaning technology gives improved cleaning results, provides better fuel consumption and allows longer intervals between cleans. Ceramex also uses unique inspection technologies to confirm that the DPF is as good-as-new after cleaning.
With Euro-6 vehicles now becoming a regular sight on British roads, many truck and bus operators are asking questions about the maintenance of the advanced emissions systems fitted to these vehicles.
One of the most important serviceable parts is the DPF, which requires periodic cleaning to maintain optimum fuel consumption and truck performance. Ceramex is gearing up to support DPF service exchange programs for major OEMs and fleets across Europe.
Marcus Beament, from Ceramex, says, “The DPF is one of the most expensive service items on the vehicle and it is critical that cleaning and inspection are performed to the highest professional standards. If DPFs are not cleaned correctly, this can lead to increased fuel consumption, shorter intervals between cleans and potential failure of the DPF, bringing an unwelcome bill for the owner.”
DPF cleaning volumes will start to ramp up over the next year or so. Many of these initial cleans will be covered under the manufacturer’s maintenance programs and extended contracts meaning that the part is exchanged immediately with a fully-tested, remanufactured unit.
Ceramex is a British company and deals with some of the world’s largest vehicle and equipment manufacturers.

Intellitec MV Ltd promotes Li-ION power
Automotive Electrical Systems specialist Intellitec will bring visitors up to date with the very latest developments in Lithium ION (Li-ION) battery technology at this year’s CV Show.
Li-ION has long been seen as a dark art when providing extra power on vehicle applications. However, Intellitec is determined to break down the barriers and show vehicle builders and operators the many advantages to be gained from using the technology. These include reduced weight, lower cost and environmental impact reductions. With standard deep cycle batteries giving a maximum life of 600 to 750 cycles at 50% discharge and Li-ION offering 5000 cycles, plus a 70% weight reduction, Intellitec believes the facts speak for themselves.
With the ever-increasing need for additional vehicle ancillary electrical power, while at the same time reducing weight to meet efficiency and environmental targets, Intellitec can now offer a range of Li-ION battery systems suitable for any type of vehicle application and budget.
In conjunction with its partner suppliers, Victron and Whisper Power, Intellitec can design, build and deliver a complete Li-ION system in a very short timeframe. Systems are available from 60Ah upwards in both 12v and 24v configurations. In a recent application for a Fire and Rescue support vehicle, Intellitec designed and delivered a 12v 1000Ah Li-ION DC/AC power system in a matter of only a few days.

Hiab gears up for World Crane Championships
Cargotec subsidiary Hiab is sponsoring the first World Crane Championships, the finals of which take place at the CV Show. Over the past year, qualification rounds have taken place in 11 different countries, and have helped narrow down a fine list of finalists from across the globe.
Those competing to become the first World Crane Champion will manoeuvre a state-of-the-art HIAB X-HiPro 192 through a series of obstacles, trying to beat a time set by the anonymous crane pro ‘Eric’, Hiab’s very own version of BBC Top Gear’s Stig, with the final victorious driver taking away a €25,000 prize.
Carl Gustaf Göransson, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Hiab said, “This competition will be the first of its kind, and a fantastic way to build on over 70 years of market leadership. To operate a crane accurately and swiftly is no mean feat, and is a skill acquired over years of experience. We are delighted that the world’s best crane drivers are coming together to compete on the world’s most advanced cranes.
“By combining the superb crane drivers’ skills with the innovative features of the HIAB X-HiPro 192 and its unrivalled performance, speed and precision, I do not doubt that during the championships, we will see unrivalled unison between man and machine.”
Hiab is aiming to make the World Crane Championships an annual event and already planning the 2016 tournament.

Goodyear returns after show success
Leading tyre brand Goodyear will return to the Commercial Vehicle Show for the second year running, following the successful launch of its new KMAX and FUELMAX products in 2014.
The Goodyear KMAX range has been developed for improved mileage performance, while not compromising on fuel efficiency and traction. Likewise, the Goodyear FUELMAX range is for the operator seeking to optimise fuel efficiency combined with good mileage.
In 2014, the FUELMAX tyre achieved top ratings in tests conducted by internationally renowned automotive testing company TÜV SÜD Automotive GmbH.
When comparing the rolling resistance against tyres from leading competitors, the FUELMAX could save a typical fleet an estimated £1,300 of fuel costs per vehicle, per year, according to Goodyear’s testing.
Marc Preedy, Goodyear’s Commercial Director for the UK and Ireland said, “When you look at the customers we have brought onboard, there is no greater endorsement for our products and high service levels than the belief of the leading fleets in the commercial industry.”

RAC Business goes the extra mile with Truck Rescue
The RAC Commercial Breakdown team returns to the CV Show this year following the successful roll-out of its Truck Rescue offer, which helped more than 100 customers in its first year.
Since the RAC launched Truck Rescue at last year’s CV Show, the breakdown specialists have handled more than 100 callouts, in addition to approximately 43,000 commercial vehicle incidents across the UK and Europe.
As a result, particularly among larger commercial vehicles (24–44t GVW), RAC will be at the Show with a new, enhanced offer to provide even more support to the trucking industry.
The RAC has almost 30 years’ experience fixing and managing truck breakdowns, but until the launch of Truck Rescue it operated on a pay-on-use basis. Truck Rescue is a subscription-based service, providing annual cover and a set fee per year, per vehicle, which helps businesses plan their cashflow more effectively and avoid unexpected bills for repair or recovery.
Jo Cardew, Operations Manager at RAC Commercial Breakdown, said, “We managed more than 100 RAC Truck Rescue breakdowns last year with a fix rate of over 70% and an average response time of an hour from the point of despatch to the scene.
“As part of the wider 43,000 callouts we handled in addition to Truck Rescue, there were two separate incidents where we had to recover diggers from severe situations where they had been bogged down. In both of these incidents we had to arrange for a temporary road to be built in order to reach and retrieve the vehicle.”
