Owens Group was started from humble beginnings in Llanelli, South Wales with one van in 1972. Today, the group now operates a fleet of 780 vehicles from 10 strategic locations across the UK.

The Business Issue

Their existing tachograph centre, established in 2006, needed major investment to calibrate Smart Tachographs. The current tachograph centre building was required for other business demands. At the same time, the more recently built authorised testing facility (ATF) was located one mile from junction 48 off the M4 and was heavily used so there was a need for a second brake tester as a support product.

Continental Solution

Continental supplied the BM14200 brake tester with tachograph adaptation and a VDO Workshop Tablet with a 10 metre long pit which was installed at the ATF. This was installed during a half day shutdown at the premises and now all of Owens Group testing services are together on one site.

Ian Jarman, ATF and Tachograph Centre Manager, said: “It is always good to get the full range of products and support from one supplier, making it far simpler to deal with one point of contact for all our needs. The local Regional Manager for Continental has assisted us greatly in both face to face and telephone support when required. The products supplied were of extremely high quality and I am certain they will last many years in our workshop. As a company we believe in buying the best products wherever possible, with strong support from the company that understands the needs of the business.”

Owen’s will be up and running from 4 August 2019 ready for brake testing, Digital and Smart Tachograph installation, and calibration.
